Padma Shri awardee and noted Indian cartoonist Sudhir Tailang passed away on 6th February, 2016. Known for his famous sketches he contributed a lot in the field of art. Through his art he depicted the contemporary events taking place in social and political world. His cartoons were known for artistic expression. He worked with all leading dailies including the Navbharat Times, Hindustan Times, Indian Express and The Times of India. His last assignment was with the Asian Age.
Indian Cartoonist Tailang was born in Bikaner, Rajasthan. In 1970, he made his first cartoon. He started his career in Mumbai with the Illustrated Weekly of India and joined the Navbharat Times, Delhi in 1983. He also worked in the Hindustan Times, Indian Express, and The Times of India. His assignment with Asian Age was the last one. His contribution in the field of art of cartooning is praiseworthy and was awarded Padma Shri in 2004. His recent book of cartoons, “No, Prime Minister” is a set of cartoons on the then Prime Minister Mr Manmohan Singh. He was suffering from a brain tumour, and was under treatment for the last two years lost his battle on 6th February, 2016.
